Hi there 😊 It is very often asked before a photosession, what to wear. First and foremost, you should feel comfortable and confident in your outfit. There are no strict rules but a couple of aspects would be great to consider. Try to think about what kind of family you are? Relaxed and colorful or rather a bit more formal? What is the REAL vibe of your family? Another important question is where would you like to display your images? What is your style and colors in your home? Here comes a little guideline from me:
- Choose items for the entire family as if you were creating one single outfit. If all your choices were somehow on one person would the result be engaging?
- Pick 2-3 colors as your starting point. Think in terms of tones such as earthy tones, neutral tones or natural tones.
- Neutral tones tend to work best, they are timeless and simple. They allow your facial expressions to be the focus of the image. Please do not wear white! Beige, light grey and creams are much better alternatives.
- Earthy tones look especially beautiful in autumn but they are always a great choice.
- Varying textures (denim, wool, linen), layers and colours in the same tone always work well. Avoid mixing very light and very dark colors (for example: black and white)
- Please stay away from fully matching outfits on everyone. Mix it up a bit. If everyone is in pants put you on a dress or skirt.
- If you have any additional stuff which clearly represents your family, bring it along. A colorful family blanket is always a great choice. Also, some vivid colored hats and scarves can be pulled on and off.
- Please try not to wear T-shirts with huge logos and cartoon characters. These will be distracting from the timelessness of the photographs.
